Portuguese born Liliana Barros is an Independent Β dancer and choreographer, based in Germany. Her choreographic works are described by a strong and intense scenic atmosphere.
Highly visual, her work is characterized by the idiosyncratic aesthetics and movement language. Visceral and archaic combined with elegant plasticity and use of technical elements in a somewhat deconstructed form.
Liliana has created several commissioned work for dance companies like NationalTheater Mannheim (GAIA, 2019) , Ballet des SaarlΓ€ndisches Staatstheaters (My name is Legion, 2017),Β Β Junges Staatstheater Braunschweig (Funkelfuchs, 2018),Β Β Gauthier Dance Company (IN TANDEM, 2020),Β Β MiR Dance CompanyΒ Β (PANORAMA , 2021),Β Β Dance Company Osnabruck (HIGH RELIEF,Β 2021 ), Netherlands Dance Theater 2 ( GROTTO, 2022) and for TanzKassel, at Staatstheater Kassel (100Years 100Hearts_ Sleeping Beauty).
NERVURE, aΒ very acclaimedΒ solo work, has won two prizes at SOLOCOREOGRAFICO Dance Show case in Torino as well as Best Performance award Copenhagen International Choreography Competition.
NERVURE has beenΒ invited to Frankfurt, to Β the Lucky Trimmer Β Festival at Sophiensaelle in Berlin, to TanzOFFensive Festival at Commedia Futura, in Hannover Β and to DanceWaves Festival in Cyprus. NERVURE has also been presented in Dock11, Β in Berlin, in a Double bill with the most recent solo PANTERA.
NERVURE Β has also toured to Taiwan and Malasya in 2019.
2020 was the debut of her digital dance project INERTIA This was supported by the NATIONAL PERFORMANCE NETWORK – STEPPING OUT, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of the NEUSTART KULTUR initiative.
Liliana has been supported by the state of Niedersachsen for her Independent productions, likeΒ MEMORABILIA ( 2019)Β as well as for her production TECHNO FAUNA (2021).
In Theater, she has also designed the stage and costumes for the theater production FaustKampft, a monologue after Goethe, premiered at Sparte4 , SaarlΓ€ndisches Staatsheater Β in 2012.
In 2017, she has collaborated, as a choreographer, with the theater director Christopher Hanninger for the theater production “Allons, Enfants”.
Liliana collaborated , as performer and assistant with the theater director Marta GΓ³rnicka for the Β production at MΓΌnchener Kammerspieler JEDEM das SEINE. Β For the Opera, Liliana has also collaborated as a choreographer with the director and stage designer Β Ben Baur for La Boheme, at the Staatstheater Braunschweig.
Liliana received her training at the BALLETEATRO Escola Professional and the Pirmin Treku Classical Ballet School in Porto before graduating with a BA in Dance from theΒ Rotterdam Dance Academy, CODARTS.Β She has danced professionally with companies such as Compagnia ZappalΓ‘ Danza, in Sicily, under direction of Roberto ZappalΓ‘, Pretty Ugly Tanz KΓΆln, under direction ofΒ AmandaΒ Miller, Β Ballett des SaarlΓ€ndisches Staatstheater, in Germany, under direction of Marguerite Donlon and later Stijn Celis and Compagnie Marie Chouinard, in Montreal.
She has performed both existing works and creations Β by Marguerite Donlon, Amanda Miller, Roberto ZapplΓ‘, Β Itzik Galili, Stephan Thoss, Marco Goecke, Β Marie Chouinard, Β Kurt Joss, Stijn Celis, Johan Inger, Β Jiri Kylian, Β Alexander Ekman and others.
In 2011, she has received the Sponsor Club Preis an Award for Best Dancer, for her outstanding performance in Le Sacre du Printemps, by Marguerite Donlon.
She has created several works for the ensemble of the Ballet des SaarlΓ€ndisches Staatstheaters such as: ILhektra, Persona, Claritas, Garden of Delight, Menagerie, Sentimental Animals and Collider/Vainglory, within a early young choreographers production.
Besides creating her work, she’s also teaching in several companies. Liliana is a certified GYROTONIC© trainer.
