Yoshito Sakuraba

È direttore artistico fondatore di Abarukas e coreografo pluripremiato. Il suo lavoro è stato visto in Germania, Polonia, Italia, Spagna, Israele, Messico e Stati Uniti. Ha vinto l’International Choreographic Competition al NW Dance Project e Choreographic Shindig al Whim W’him negli Stati Uniti. È stato premiato per il Best Choreography Award in Italia al FINI Dance Festival e Audience Award al Masdanza International Contemporary Dance Festival in Spagna, ed è stato invitato a presentare il suo lavoro “Coming Home” per il Masdanza Extensions Tour nel 2018 per esibirsi nelle sette isole delle Canarie. Gli è stato commissionato un lavoro da Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, NW Dance Project, Whim W’Him, Ballet Des Moines, Ballet Arkansas, Graham II, Alvin Ailey/Fordham University, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Elon University, Peabody/Johns Hopkins University, Muhlenberg College, HSPVA, GHAA, IAA, Making Moves Dance Festival, Dance Gallery Festival/Level Up, FINI Dance Festival, Interlochen Center for the Arts, Jamaica Performing Arts Center, Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts, e altri. Ha presentato il suo lavoro per l’International Solo Tanz Theater Festival (Germania), Gdansk Dance Festival (Polonia), Masdanza International Contemporary Dance Festival (Spagna), Mash International Choreography Festival (Israele), e FIDCDMX (Messico), Festival 10 Sentidos (Spagna), e FINI Dance Festival (Italia). È stato presentato a NY1 e a Bric TV su Spectrum Cable Channel. Ha insegnato all’Amsterdam Dance Centre (Olanda), DAF Dance Arts Faculty (Italia), FINI Dance (Italia), The Playground (NYC), Dance Theater of Harlem (NYC), Open Dance Festival (Iowa), e altri. Attualmente insegna alla Peridance, alla GIBNEY e alla Martha Graham School. Creerà una nuova produzione per il 2020-2021 con un compositore di Londra con il sostegno della Rabbit Island Foundation e del Rozsa Center della Michigan Technological University. Ha fondato Abarukas nell’autunno del 2012, e la compagnia si è esibita al BAM Fisher, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out Series nel 2014 e 2016, Palm Desert Choreography Festival, Pan Asian Dance Festival, LaMama Moves Dance Festival, DanceNow at Joe’s Pub, WestFest, Making Moves Dance Festival, APAP Showcase at Peridance, Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, Baruch Performing Arts Center, 92Y, GK Arts Center, e una serie di università negli USA. Stati Uniti, così come una residenza e una performance al Kaatsbaan International Dance Center. Broadway Dance World descrive: “Sono stato testimone di una vera opera d’arte… la mente brillante del signor Sakuraba per la coreografia mi ha affascinato… estrema creatività, dettagli raffinati e danza di alto livello”.
