DAF REPERTOIRE REWIRED

The Cut | Final Performance

A project by the DAF International Programme

DAF Repertoire Rewired emerges from the idea of revisiting the choreographic memory of the DAF International Programme, rewiring the internal connections of a repertoire developed over the years through encounters with different choreographers, artistic languages and creative processes.

The richness of this body of work represents an almost unique experience in many respects, not simply because of the number and diversity of the creations produced, but above all because of the depth of the processes through which these materials have been developed, transformed and absorbed over time. Bringing them back to life therefore means moving beyond the mere recovery of movement, seeking instead to reactivate the impulses, memories and impressions that accompanied their creation and evolution. Within this process, dancers who have directly experienced some of these works become active participants in their transmission, sharing with others not simply what they remember of the choreography, but also the perceptions, intuitions and traces those experiences have left behind.

The project unfolds over ten days, during which fragments of choreography are removed from their original contexts, explored by new performers and recomposed into an entirely new choreographic organism. Rather than attempting to reconstruct the original works, the process investigates what happens when materials conceived according to independent artistic logics are brought into coexistence, compelled to redefine their relationships and discover a new expressive necessity.

The limited time available becomes an integral part of the experiment. Dancers are asked to absorb and reinterpret, in real time, material with which most of them have had no previous direct experience. Their relationship with the repertoire is therefore shaped by an inevitably partial understanding, informed by knowledge of the works’ origins, the personal accounts of those who experienced them, and the ability to recognise their original intentions and structures through the body.

Within this framework, technical precision is not the primary objective. The research focuses instead on the possibility of establishing choreographic credibility and genuine organic coherence from heterogeneous elements, without erasing their differences or attempting to reproduce the identity of the works from which they originate.

THE CUT, the final performance, emerges from this process of reconnection. A choreographic composition shaped through selection, interruption, juxtaposition and transformation, in which the memory of the repertoire remains recognisable as a point of origin while progressively losing its initial configuration.

Ten days to explore how far a body of choreographic experience can be dismantled and reassembled, and what new internal logic might emerge from the encounter between materials that were never originally conceived to belong to the same work.
